High-Rise ★★★★

The original novel from 1975 presented a truly unique imagination of a slow and steady degradation in social hierarchy. And no person could do justice to sweet anarchy like my man, Ben Wheatley. Akin to a Planet of the Apes-style drama but narrated in a more woozy, intoxicating, and manic fashion. Scenes of surrealism and absurdism throughout, all of which pack an amazing punch thanks to the gradually oppressive film score composed by none other than the great Clint Mansell. Amazing performances by Hiddleston and Irons—icing on the cake of societal collapse. A must-see for fans of films like Dr. Strangelove, Snowpiercer, or 12 Monkeys.
