strong what the heck energy from this one!!
I’m going to write a full essay (3000-4000 words) on this film’s critique of marriage culture and singleness culture. As someone pursuing singleness in the context of community (maybe I’ll become a monk? idk if monks get to watch movies) the content of The Lobster is extremely relevant to my life and my ideology. This may end up being a big project I take on in the fall. I’m more excited than anything.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Exhilarating. Ultimately, though, it was less “I’m so exhilarated that the plot ended that way” and more “I’m so exhilarated that the writers found a way to end it this way,” which is to say that it was never really believable. Something about the all-tech cinematography made Searching inherently distant and unbelievable. Still loved the acting and the plot tension and thought John Cho’s outstanding performance here went unfairly ignored last year.
