The Children Act ★★★½

No that’s it. I’m gonna watch you walk away.

The film opens with Emma Thompson as a judge, deciding on a tough case (conjoined twins, no less). Her husband (Stanley Tucci) plays a professor. We are given brief glimpses into his world, but we are not told how the American man and English woman met. We also don’t know if the American professor got some type of work visa or got his citizenship after marrying the judge. I didn’t even think about it at first, but that is one of the unanswered questions.

The movie pulls no punches and attacks tough topics like faith versus science, parental love, talking about having an open marriage, being professional versus having a heart. It’s almost too much to tackle. However, it works quite well thanks to the flawless acting.
