It’s no secret that white cinema has had more of a platform than black cinema, time and time again we see the awards and Best of the Year lists come in and only so few of the slots have been helmed by black creators. So naturally, I’ve compiled a list of some incredible films by black directors, actors, and/or writers that don’t get the love and applause they deserve from general audiences. A mix of dramas, comedies, foreign language films, docs, biopics, and blaxploitation; all poetic cinema that for some odd reason doesn’t fit the westernized canon of most pretentious white cinephiles. Enjoy!
Feel free to comment below for any additional suggestions, I am more than willing to add them onto the list!
