Maybe it’s because I’ve been suffering from some extremely fucked up dreams lately, but after trying and failing to get through this movie like, four times, it’s finally, finally clicked for me. I can’t think of another film that feels more like a nightmare than this one; every single thing in it feels like it functions on dream logic in a way that’s far more accurate than any other movie this side of The Shining. It’s the farthest thing from conventional horror but damn does it scare the shit out of me. Never before have I been so torn between never wanting to watch a film again and wanting to restart it as soon as I’ve finished.
