    Pokémon Detective Pikachu

    ★★★★½

Full disclosure: I have a cat named after Pikachu and I am a big fan of this franchise in its many forms, including the card game, video games, and its anime series. I think with any beloved property that is being adapted it’s important to consider the fandom (or lack thereof) of the reviewer, so putting my history out there up front for context.

POKÉMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU is nearly everything that I wanted it to be. The visual representation of…

A true epic in every sense. One long sweeping story. No prequels or sequels or setups for a universe. Every element of Jackson's production is operating at the highest level. Truly wish that I would have seen this on the big screen. A terrible, terrible miss. I am excited, though, to dig into all of the supplemental material that Jackson films are accompanied with. I consider this a new favorite, and one of the best monster movies ever made.

Grateful for the folks who took time to document this journey of a studio reinventing itself and creating one of the best video games of all-time. It's insane what goes into making a AAA game and this gives a great sense of the pressure to deliver, the sacrifice required, and the creative drive that fuels everyone involved. Incredible game, amazing behind-the-scenes story of it. Play the game and then watch this.

Tough watch. Reminds me of a documentary I watched this year called ROLL RED ROLL, about a teenage rape case where the evidence was all on social media posts and group chats. Terrifies me that girls have to endure this. Parents need to make their teenage boys (especially) watch this and talk to them about how to stand up to their friends and not participate if these things occur.

The most shocking takeaway for me was that even in 1937 Hollywood was very self-aware of the culture it was forming and its cost on the identities and lives of those who dreamed to be a part of it.

    I almost clapped.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is one of the best origin stories ever told. It fills in details for so much of a beloved character that you may be shocked they could cover it all. The action and adventurous tone make for one heck of an enjoyable movie experience and Ehrenreich importantly embodies young Han, growing into the character over the course of the film. Though some may find parts to be cheesy or unnecessarily connected to…
