Failed star vehicle for the late, great John Heard, shelved for a couple years following the death of director John Trent (MIDDLE AGE CRAZY). Unless you're a devoted fan of Heard, you can skip BEST REVENGE. The film, purported to be an international thriller, never really finds its footing, wearing its inspiration (MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, RAIDERS...) a little too prominently. Still manages to offer a cool supporting cast, including the ravishing Alberta Watson as Heard's new wave girlfriend, Levon Helm as Ex-Pat Levon Helm, and John Rhys Davies as the noble Arab. Stephen McHattie is fantastic, too, as Heard's sleazy best friend who drags him into the whole mess.
Aside from having John Rhys Davies in a fez doing Shakin' Sydney Greenstreet, and John Heard in Indy cosplay, this isn't Shakin' Raiders, but a rather dry and boring Canadian noir.
