surprisingly sleazy and offbeat 90s Canadian thriller with The Hidden's Michael Nouri as a cab driver that helps a government agent flee the US to the great white (and snowy) north while brutal assassin Michael Ironside chases them and kills just about everyone who gets in his way; more violent than expected and basically a 90 minute chase scene that never lets up - surprised that this isn't more talked about in the pantheon of 90s genre oddities
Imagine having an Uber driver that won't shut up. And it's a 35 hour ride. And Michael Ironside is trying to kill you. That's this movie.
rip Travis
Watch the trailer and try to figure out what the hell the movie's about. This is another good example of the randomized color + substance titling formula. I'd say it checks out as a Christmas film due to the frozen scenery and romantic/moderately escapist road trip.
a bit closer to what I was looking for. was seeking a more substantial role for Michael Ironside because the guy is quite a force. definitely some fun scenes but this movie is in fact not good.
Canadian thriller with some erotic/neo-noir moments and a deep state plot. A lot of snow. Ironside rules.
Coincidentally, Michael Ironside did an ad spot for Maximum Ice the next year.
I actually really enjoyed this and only didn't give it 4 stars because the ending was super mediocre and tacked on.
Taxi driver takes on a deal to drive a beautiful lady (Joanna Pacula) across country not knowing she's being hunted by a killer (Michael Ironside). This is a slow moving road thriller, with little content and depth to be memorable. Young Ironside delivers his creepy best but he's scenes are quick and swept aside as we have to endure a truly lousy romance between our two protagonists.
There is nothing technically wrong with "Black Ice" but there is nothing unique or interesting either. This is as basic as can be.
Truly forgettable.
One of many erotic thrillers that regularly populated video store rental shelves in the 90s,this Canadian thriller(from director Neill Fearnley[JOHNNY 2.0,CHRISTMAS IN BOSTON]) throws in an action premise amid its storyline as long haired cab driver Michael Nouri gives a ride to a fleeing government agent Joanna Pacula(MARKED FOR DEATH,GORKY PARK) who is on the run after accidently killing a leery senator(while posing as a prostitute),with a dangerous government assassin(Michael Ironside) avidly chasing after her and ruthlessly killing anyone who gets in his way)throughout the Canadian outdoors. The film contains plenty of endless action scenes and a handful of surprisingly gory murders(that include bodily bullet hits, and a large shred of broken glass gorily impaling itself through a guy's throat),amid a…
A greasy but friendly cab driver is taken advantage of by a CIA femme fatale, both being chased by the supreme Canadian mug, Michael Ironside.
The most standard made-for-TV low budget thriller, without anything to grab the attention. Bad writing, boring characters, not even a little mystery or cool action. It's not offensively bad either, but that would have at least made it interesting; this was more like watching paint dry. The fact that I could only find it on YouTube in 360p probably also didn't help.
Pretty lousy. It’s funny because it hits all the beats of a road trip comedy but is a serious thriller.
Michael Nouri’s weird curly mullet pony tail thing was distracting me. Michael Ironside isn’t in it enough and his character is pretty one dimensional.
Kind of a cool backstory with CIA honeypots on politicians. Arne Olsen also wrote Red Scorpion so the political background of this movie kinda rings truer since he was in the shit with those people.
Cool that it takes place in Detroit to start. This was ‘92? True Romance did a similar Detroit but not really Detroit location a year later.
I’m a sucker for a good thriller hook and if nothing surprising actually happens it always feels like the characters are making their own weird decisions. Chance and luck are as important as the vague thriller plot (which keeps its secrets a long time before shrugging them off).
Nouri’s hair (or wig) is so nuts I honestly thought there would be a makeover scene. Pacula underplays everything nicely. Having Michael Ironside play the villain is a huge win. From the writers of Cop and a Half and Faces of Death!
