Damn, David Lynch. That's one nice boat you have there.
Don't know why you had to make an 8 minute short about it though
Lynch: Look, I got a new boat.
Lynch's friend: Oh that's nice.
Lynch: I will make a short about it.
Lynch: Like there was a reason I made all the other shorts.
Me: You got me there.
*after I see the short*
Lynch: What did you think of it?
Me: What was the point?
Lynch: There wasn't any!
Me: Dude you have to get back on the movies train!
Lynch: Oh okay, I will make a Dune sequel.
(expect a Dune review)
boat: begins to move
david lynch: sits in the boat
me: oh my god
Successful solely by the fact that in his “Web 2.0 Short Film” phase Lynch became a (possibly inadvertent) master of a “white midnight” look captured by cranking the exposure up way too high. Credit to him where it’s due, it’s a harder feel to capture than obliterating everything in frame with brightness, and shares an eerie commonality with the spoiler for Twin Peaks season 2 following scene where Leland/Bob murders Maddie in the Palmers’ living room, where the lighting switches to an ephemeral spotlight in instances where Bob is apparent. End spoiler. Also felt in effect (though appearing in a different form) with Jörg Schmidt-Reitman’s photography for Herzog’s Nosferstu remake.
Sometimes, no matter how much ominous ASMR narration you put over it, a boat is just a boat
this man made a whole artsy short film only to flex on us with his nice boat and i respect that
thanks for the 7 min power nap
David Lynch is in the boat!!
"AN ACADEMIC DEFINITION of Lynchian might be that the term "refers to a particular kind of irony where the very macabre and the very mundane combine in such a way as to reveal the former's perpetual containment within the latter." But like postmodern or pornographic, Lynchian is one of those Porter Stewart-type words that's ultimately definable only ostensively-i.e., we know it when we see it."
-david foster wallace on his article "david lynch keeps his head" (1996).
an extension of the definition proposed by foster wallace would be to say that lynch seeks to capture the disturbing behind the daily, even idyllic facade, of the spaces he represents on the screen. twin peaks or blue velvet are clearly governed by…
