Mörder im All, Meurtre dans l'espace
The Conestoga, coming out of radio silence, is returning from its maiden voyage to Mars when members of the international crew start turning up dead. As Captain Braddock (Michael Ironside) tries to keep things under control onboard the ship, despite the obviously unscheduled crew removals, Dr. Andrew McCallister (Wilfred Brimley) and his crew of science types try to work out just what's happening from Mission Control.
A bizarre attempt by Showtime and CTV to concoct a multimedia cozy mystery, but in space, complete with an accompanying novelization and cash reward for any amateur sleuths up to the task. But is all this in service of an exciting space-based murder mystery?
Not especially. It's not horrible, but it just never grabbed…
It's a who done it in space featuring both Wilfred Brimley and Michael Ironside, What more could any one ask for? Being a made for TV film its a low budget affair, but interesting to watch. The Cold War era political intrigue makes for an interesting viewing. Some of the sets are not too bad for a mid eighties TV film. It's not going to be the greatest thing you have ever seen but it will keep you entertained for a hour and a half.
Sterile, made-for-tv Canadian whodunit. It’s got a classy, soapy, almost BBC TV vibe that makes for a languid watch that would probably appeal to my parents. The good news is that it’s chock full of Canadian cuties, Wilford Brimley and iris shots. Bad news is that it’s boring as shit, my boy Brimley is given absolutely nothing to do, and it looks like it cost about $5 to make. Far from the crate digging gem I was hoping it would be.
Low budget made for TV SciFi from the 80s that barely manages to entertain.
Wilford Brimley blusters his way through his role as Grouchy Mustache Boss, honorary Canadian Micheal Ironside is Tough Guy Astronaut.
It's a whodunnit with a coat of SF paint, competent but uninspired. Made at the height of the Cold War, it's full of obstreperous Russkies, poofy hair with a side order of Gay Panic and International Incidents.
I'm pretty sure some sound effects were swiped from the 1973 TV series The Starlost, and visual effects from Corman's Battle Beyond the Stars. A Commodore VIC 20 is being used in mission control with a classic 1702 monitor! Watch for the Beechcraft Starship, a really unique aircraft.
Initially broadcast without the ending, there was a contest to guess the murderer! Prizes were awarded when the conclusion was shown a few days later.
Film #370 of 2019, viewed on YouTube.
Hey, somebody had to make TEN LITTLE INDIANS IN OUTER SPACE, so why not Showtime? And with a $50,000 gimmick attached to it. When Showtime premiered MURDER IN SPACE July 28, 1985, it was shy the last 30 minutes of footage. Viewers were invited to send the pay cable channel letters naming their guesses of the murderer’s identity.
Allegedly, director Steven H. Stern reunited the cast and crew after all the letters were received and filmed the end of the movie, which Showtime aired September 14, 1985. It seems unlikely the name actors were willing to hand around more than a month to finish shooting, when it would have been easier, faster, and cheaper to just film a bunch of…

Before Among Us, there was... Murder In Space!
“Space law is still in its infancy.” Yes, well said...
A bunch of sex-obsessed astronauts who can’t keep their space junk in their jumpsuits begin to unravel when one of their crew members turns up dead. Who...or... what... could have done it? Monogamy, that coldest of all wars... 🚀 🌎 😉
A plays-fair super low budget made-for-tv murder mystery with a spaceship/mission control setting starring Wilford Brimley, Michael Ironside, and Alberta Watson???????????????? YOU LITERALLY COULD NOT MAKE A MOVIE MORE GEARED TO MY CURRENT INTERESTS. And it's actually pretty good. THANKS CARLO FOR FINDING IT FOR ME!!!!!
(There's a goodish copy on youtube.)
This could have been way more fun if it was just solely set on the ship.
