Washed up, can't-get-over-his-divorce cop Robert Davi, having already faced off against the mighty Robert Z'dar in MANIAC COP 2, hunts down a Satan-powered super-killer Michael Ironside in New Orleans, as directed by David A. Prior (DEADLY PREY, KILLER WORKOUT). One would think with these credentials this would have to be great. One would be wrong. Features Nawlins accents so disastrous one will wonder whether this or Katrina is the worst thing to happen to the crescent city in our lifetimes.
David A. Prior's slow burning and deeply personal self reflection and exploration on the effects of evil and sin on love. How it distorts and negatively impacts the healing and guiding role of true love in humans; And it's enriching outcomes required by the human soul... Prior asks what happens when love and lust blur and destroy the person and people around them and society in general. An all too common reality in world becoming more evil and depraved each passing day; The incubator in which we are forced to grow and learn in. David films this deep reaching search within in a deeply dysthymic lens and sets it against the originally pagan festival of Mardi Gras; Where evil and…
I mean it’s bad, but Michael Ironside finally plays a satanic parkour enthusiast with literal bullet proof iron sides! Finally!
Tbh I’ll watch anything set in New Orleans as well as anything with Robert Davi or Michael Ironside. This movie is probably a total piece of shit but I was blinded by those three previously stated factors.
This is also the most money I’ve ever paid for a Echo Bridge dvd, I don’t regret it but this movie wasn’t worth $17 + shipping from some Karen who makes extra money to get her nails did every two weeks by selling bullshit on eBay she finds at the local goodwill while waiting for Chase and Trevor to get out of lacrosse practice.
After mistakenly watching MARDI GRAS MASSACRE, I did find the film I was looking for: MARDI GRAS FOR THE DEVIL. Kinda wish I didn't as it was a waste of time. At least MARDI GRAS MASSACRE had its true grindhouse vibe going for it. This forgettable mess has cop-on-the-edge Robert Davi (SHOWGIRLS) trying to catch psycho Bishop (Michael Ironside... with hair!). Only problem is that Bishop sold his soul to the devil and is now a superhuman demon. Bishop targets Lydie Denier (roommate of one of the victims) and Lesley-Anne Down (the cop's ex-wife) in order to get to Davi. With Mike Starr as Davi's new partner, Margaret Avery as a psychic voodoo lady, and John Amos as the police chief who knows more than he's letting on.
sleepy soft-serve smut from the Big Easy courtesy of David A. Prior, who pits cop-on-the-edge (of passing out) Robert Davi against a be-trenchcoated Michael Ironside, who terrorizes NOLA in a beard-n-ponytail combo, is suggested to be the Devil, and takes to women who have, and I'm quoting here, a "nice mouth." some nutso action sequences aside (including one where Ironside parkours over a car, which then proceeds to explode), there's not much here to share with you; even the sex scenes are low-effort sleaze (Davi can't be bothered to take off his shirt!), though this does feature tough guy Mike Starr with a doozy of a gumbo accent. culminates in Ironside giving Davi a life-or-death choice between saving his ex-wife…
It's David A. Prior, so you're going to get at least a handful of so-bad-it's-good scenes, but this is not one of his movies that's also kind of awesome. Mostly, it's just actually bad.

So much promise but ultimately dull and limp. Good cast and an interesting premise but Prior goes for subtle when he’s at his best when his films are batshit crazy.
David A Prior was, by 1993, firmly in his new mindset of producing competent straight-to-video work to fill those Blockbuster shelves. The man we grew to...love?...with his bonkers Vietnam vet stories, is now like any one of a hundred hacks. So I’m sorry, dear reader, that these reviews will be somewhat less in-depth than you’re used to, mostly because there’s just not that much to write about.
What we have here is a rare starring role for Robert Davi, who’d clearly signed a two-movie deal with AIP, after his supporting role in “Center of the Web”. He’s Mike Turner, your standard-issue tortured cop, and he is, for reasons never adequately explained, part of a stakeout watching a hot naked woman…
Demonic Michael Ironside begins his yearly murder rampage through Mardi Gras and it's up to washed up cop Robert David to stop him. It's not nearly as fun as it sounds. There is an almost WAVE-esque predicament murder attempt towards the end, if you're into that kind of thing. The actual ending is just so weak. You can clearly tell they didn't have a strong idea to wrap up a somewhat interesting premise and just kind of shrugged it off.
