LONG LIVE MANDRAKIAN MARXISM!
That is perhaps the funniest quote from 'La proprietà non è più un furto/PROPERTY IS NO LONGER A THEFT (1973) Italy, colour, 126m., directed by Elio Petri.
Flavio Bucci, Ugo Tognazzi, Daria Nicolodi, Salvo Randone
All playing strange characters here.
The film is very funny in a weird way. There are many very strange and also beautiful scenes. Underneath are layers of political and philosophical discussion. Continually interesting all through.
It was also very liberating to NOT have to endure long and violent car chase scenes, although there is some intrigue detail with police chasing robbers.
Elio Petri is a very rewarding director to watch.
Available as an R2 (2017) Dual Format edition with English subtitles from Arrow Academy. I am glad to have bought it as there will undoubtedly be future rewatches of this one.
