Quite different in tone and pacing but didn't love this as much as Klute. And even though Warren Beatty plays an investigative reporter this film is more of a spy-thriller, perceptible in the inspiration its climax provides for MI:5's opera sequence.
Really great trippy scene in the middle and the climax is amazing. Gordon Willis once again provides very striking imagery. Excellent ending, although I wish it'd sat down with its characters more. Would've hit harder.
Pakula is undoubtedly proving to be one of the greats. Here he's turned the common action thriller into something really special. His directorial prowess really shows. Sometimes the cynicism found in Klute appears to be missing, but it's there. Just comes later.
Gearing up to see All The President's Men, which is probably his most renowned film.
