"The Puppetoon Movie" (1987) - [8/10] - Day 184 of #Movies365
In the 1930s and '40s, animator George Pal created what he called "puppetoons," a form of stop motion animation. Unlike other stop motion shorts, Pal would create unique figures for each frame of movement (as opposed to reusing movable figures). This allowed the characters to stretch and squash like traditional animation, and it gave the shorts a look unlike anything else at the time.
"The Puppetoon Movie" is a collection of these shorts with a framing device starring Gumby, Pokey, and a dinosaur named Arnie. It's mostly a weird and brief excuse to set up the shorts, but hey, new (for the time) Gumby animation, so that's fun!
