Possession fans, you gotta check that 2 seconds frame of Marlene Willoughby with the knifes!
Voices of Desire begins as an atmospheric dreamscape horror such as Carnival of Souls. Anna (Sandra Peabody from Last House on the Left) is shopping Manhattan when she picks up a ringing payphone. She begins to hear heavy breathing and runs down the street. Carnival wasn’t the cult favorite it is today but this opening (including getting onto a bus of ghouls) is uncannily similar. Chuck Vincent proves why he’s considered one of the best filmmaker in porn with this eerie film thus far. Unfortunately, once she gets captured by the sex ghouls, the film turns into a more conventional softcore flick with orgies and overlong sex scenes (interestingly, Vincent’s hardcore sequences were known for not outstaying their welcome). There’s…

Surprise! It's porn. Wasn't ready for that, and I don't really vibe with this genre so I don't quite know how to assess it. I was prepared to watch it as a horror film, which it kind of isn't. A lot of the staging was interesting, but mostly I was pretty bored?

"Make no mistakes, Chuck Vincent's work in adult films is distinctive, with an experimental, arthouse feel unlike many of his straight forward porn peers of the era, and his unmistakable flair is evident here, with the use of classical pieces in the soundtrack, sprawling, picturesque exteriors shot guerilla and filled with magnificent metropolitan architecture, and weird insert shots. It doesn't hurt having a little sweetie like Sandra Peabody to focus your lens upon, either. If light fiddle-fodder for the raincoat crowd was the only kind of gig that the pixie-esque Peabody/Cassell was getting offered, no one could blame her for walking away when she did, for more fulfilling climes."-

it’s cool but like, it’s just people fucking so it’s not that interesting… 🚔🏙️👹
Well shot sex-horror hybrid has a chilling atmosphere and some creepily surreal sequences, though it’s weighted far more towards the softcore sex.
Sandra Peabody from Last House on the Left and Teenage Hitchhikers stars, though she doesn’t get a chance to show her charm and comic timing in this one, unlike Hitchhikers where she stole the show.
The Something Weird print looks like it was dug up from a thousand-year-old grave.
This here is a really obscure thing from the shady, NYC sex film-scene, starring none other than Sandra Peabody of The Last House on the Left-fame (here under the pseudonym Liyda Cassell). From what I've gathered, she doesn't seem too proud of what she did in the early 70's, but really, there's nothing to be ashamed of here. Voices if Desire is a sexploitation/softcore/mystery/horror film, about this girl (Peabody) who's with the police, recounting her time with a sex cult whose members are dead, either from murder or suicide. There's a lot of sex in the film and I've seen some people calling this a porn, but I don't know man. Sure, there's nothing wrong with that, but to my…
