Impossible to review so I’ll just say this. My best friend chose to watch this on his 13th birthday party. I have fucking odd friends.
Yep. It’s The Lion King alright.
Although amongst the beautiful and highly impressive life like CGI somethings missing. The raw emotion of its animated characters and sense of wonder both in tone and its vivid and colourful environments that came with the original are instead replaced with realistic (and slightly dull) expressionless faces and browns and greys that seem to big a fixture of modern day blockbusters.
A insane voice cast help boost this into being something I’ll happily watch again but it’s not a patch on the original.
I should probably state first that this franchise is kinda my Star Wars, I adore the universe, characters and overall style these films create so maybe I'm a little bias. Much like Avengers: Age Of Ultron this isn't as good as the original but it's so fun and effortlessly charming that it's so easy to forgive it's flaws (and it does have some, a real lack of a plot being the most egregious) but for me anytime spent back in this universe is time well spent. I could have easily turned around and watched this again immediately.
