Steve Parsons’s review published on Letterboxd :
I'm a little shocked that so many reviewers I like and follow rated this overall positively. I can't say I was exactly disappointed, but it was exactly what I expected, maybe little less.
There isn't enough Godzilla kicking ass, and then when he does it's one of those situations where I'm like, "Why didn't he just use that finishing move 15 minutes ago?" Maybe he's just a big dumb animal and my expectations are too high?
I really didn't like the sad strings music swells when things aren't going well for Godzilla. Really lame. If he's just a big dumb animal I shouldn't feel sad when he gets a big dumb boo boo.
Also, the lead actor (I've already forgotten his name and can't be bothered to look it up) is bad. Wooden-faced. And the story is much too convenient, placing him at the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time constantly.
No surprises and, frankly, not enough Godzilla for a movie called Godzilla.
