    Us (2019) skimped out on character development to rush into a decent horror flick, before jumping the shark and becoming a convoluted mess of plot threads. The comedy comes at the expense of character logic, often conflicting with the tone of the film, and ruins taking these characters seriously.

    The final act itself is pretty bad, but then exploding into an egregious mess of melodrama and rushed explanations. But the film is so well done, with fantastic acting from everyone…

    So this lived up to the hype. Shout out to Craig Marzen for being such a big help and releasing the scripts and having a podcast about the history and writing process.

    This is one of the most captivating and horrifying representations of human tragedy out there. It is brilliantly told, explaining things without burdening the audience or talking down to them, and has some of the best make up and production design to have graced HBO.

    and fuck Dyatlov.
