The wardrobe scene set to “The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage” is pure magic in its truest form and a top five marriage of screen and song in the history of cinema. Fight me.
These early Cronenberg films, maybe all the way until The Fly, definitely have a look. It’s like wandering through the halls of a liberal arts college, all browns and yellows and tweed jackets and ladies in smart suits. Everything is intentionally flat and trapped in a hyper specific time and place.
But, in the middle of this mundanity is madness, chaos, body horror imagery that sticks to your ribs, and in this case a most unsettling murder in a school.…
