Tea and Sympathy ★★½

Films I watched while in Vermont - 7

Kinda plays out like a boring and lifeless Sirk melodrama, trying to emulate the bright colors and female-oriented conflicts that Sirk mastered. Vincente Minnelli is a respectable director, but Tea & Sympathy isn't very new or original outside of the "Hayes Code-pushing" subject matter and content. Without the excellent performances by Deborah and John Kerr (no relation), the film would have nothing going for it. That is all.
