Good lord. This film made me feel so many emotions. The Rocky franchise is special to me. I remember watching the first five of the series as a kid and just being enamored. These movies are a big reason I love film as much as I do. Rocky IV isn't a great movie, but I loved it at the time because that was what I wanted to see at that age. I wanted ridiculousness and spectacle. I'm 25 now and…
I am blown away.
I saw the first 35 minutes of this back in October at New York Comic Con. It was been straight up torture waiting for the whole thing.
And oh my Lord and Miller, I am in awe. If you know me, you know I'm a huge Spider-Man fan. As a nerdy boy from Queens who loved photography and science, the character has always spoke to me. Then, as someone who is obsessed with Donald Glover and…
This is the way the X-Men film series ends. Not with a bang, but with a whimper.
Dark Phoenix is not the worst of the franchise. To be fair though, that's a pretty low bar. The excellent cast is once again wasted by terrible storytelling, much like it was in Apocalypse. Although comparing it to Apocalypse, I feel like Dark Phoenix has much fewer awesome moments. The plot is slow and drags. It was not engaging in the least bit. I wish it was better because this series has delivered some truly great films. This, sadly, does not come close to that level.
Just how good is Octavia Spencer? Without her, this film would not work. Ma has a truly fascinating premise, but the execution left me wanting more. It never quite reaches its high potential. That said, Octavia Spencer almost made me forget about all of Ma's flaws and just appreciate her exceptional performance. But man. These kids sure are dumb.
This film is heartbreaking. As is included in the title, Beautiful Boy is beautiful. And yet, it is somehow also so ugly and hard to watch. Every single second is gut-wrenching and excruciating to watch. Even in the seemingly calm moments, there was always that fear in the back of my head that things would go bad and go bad quickly. That's the thing with addiction. It's a constant, ongoing battle.
Everyone in this film is exceptional; from the two…
I am so surprised that I liked this as much as I did. I like Elton John, but I wouldn't call myself a superfan. I can't help but feel like I would absolutely love Rocketman if I was. Rocketman nails everything it tries to be. Not only does it deliver an awesome story, it's an exceptional musical. The story points didn't feel like they were just there to lead to the next musical number. It all fit together very well.…
