Ryan Laux’s review published on Letterboxd:
What a powerhouse performance by Maggie Gyllenhaal in this story of a kindergarten teacher’s nurturing, caring for, and unhealthy obsession with a child prodigy student of hers. Jimmy is a 5 year old with a natural gift for poetry, and Gyllenhaal’s Lisa feels he’s not getting the support from his family to get the best out of his spectacular talent. This caring and support from Lisa comes from a good place but goes too far too fast. Gyllenhaal gives one of the best performances of 2018 in this complex and heartbreaking film.
