    Coming Home

I am a prison abolitionist, which is a stance that seems to only inspire bewilderment, even amongst progressives and leftists. The usual response goes something like this:

"So you want to criminals to just walk free, huh? What do you do about rapists and murderers? You're naïve, we need prisons!"

To which my instinctive response is often equally glib and unhelpful. I can be impatient sometimes. No, I don't actually want to storm Blackgate and free the oppressed. Not yet

Didn't rewatch this, but after my last viewing I started cutting it into a music video. I finally finished it up and you can watch it below:

Spoilers for the film I suppose.

How did I only give this movie ★★★?

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

totally paved over my issues with the first two and went even harder with the stuff i loved. sure it's a little orientalist, but what western movie isn't? i just love how much fun the filmmakers are having by giving themselves these crazy challenges and restrictions. perfect setpieces from start to finish.

for as bloated as the mythos might seem, it's still lean as hell compared to most other series out there. plus it's given us the god-tier cast. lawrence fishburne owns, lance reddick owns, halle berry owns, mark dacascos owns, and YAYAN RUHIAN owns. god bless.

    The Haunting of Hill House

The Haunting of Hill House has the worst writing I have ever seen in something so well-regarded. Given the glut of hidden ghost listicles, I can only surmise that its popularity is based on finding easter eggs. Well congrats everyone, you "solved" the show! You 100%d it. This is the only explanation for its popularity that makes sense to me.

This series suffers no subtlety. Visual storytelling? Succinct dialogue? Ambiguity? No, absolutely not. Anything remotely interesting gets rounded off…
