I absolutely adored this! The images! The striking powerful images! The comically grotesque goth figures dominating the interiors of the castle. Each shot Josef von Sternberg did looked like a great piece of art. This movie was a silent at heart with the music telling the emotions and a few lines thrown in for play. And it worked fantastically thanks to the expressive faces and the unique mind of Sternberg with excellent use of lighting and settings.
