I hadn't even heard of this before I picked it up at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, the premise is really cool. I liked the movie even though the execution isn't the best and the pacing is off. Also Sean Bean is in this movie - even though his character is kind of forgettable, his death is pretty spectacular. Since Bean's died onscreen so many times, I wouldn't consider this a spoiler.
If you didn't already know, I absolutely adored the novel by Andy Weir. Seriously, if you haven't read it yet, you're really missing out. Even if you don't generally like sci-fi, I still highly recommend you take a look at it based on the strength of the leading character alone. Usually, I prefer the book to the movie adaptation, but that's not always the case (see The Scorch Trials). In this particular case, though, I think I loved the movie…
That was so awesome to see on the big screen. There are a few minor issues, but it was so much fun. Brie Larson gives a fantastic performance as Vers/ Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson is great as always as Nick Fury, and Ben Mendelsohn is excellent as Talos. Goose, though, is the real MVP and he steals all of his scenes. By the way, the the Stan Lee tribute at the beginning of the film is touching - and his cameo is a good one. Higher, further, faster, baby!
