    Annabelle Comes Home

Title doesn't exactly make sense and it doesn't totally capitalize on its premise but it's fun enough. End credits are the best part. They're real cool.

  • Child's Play

    Child's Play

The doll design is pretty wonky and it dulls a bit in the second half but wow is it a neat little movie. Reasonably inspired and feels weirdly sincere. Lots of stuff shoots for an "Amblin feel" these days and this does a way better, more how best job of it than most. Love an R rated movie that's aimed at the kids sneaking in to it.

Would have absolutely trucked this lady the second it became reasonable to do so

    Men in Black: International

No pulse whatsoever. I've seen more offensively bad stuff this year but I haven't seen anything quite this crushingly mundane yet.

Like taking a long pull on a jug of milk that's definitely going bad tomorrow.

Put more demented stuff in America's theaters. Fingers crossed for Ma 2: Regeneration in a year or so.

  • Dirty Harry

    Dirty Harry

The the vivid goofiness of a cop having a very particular monologue practiced and ready to go whenever he has someone dead to rights hit really hard this time. Still great though.

  • Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday

Remember a few years ago when Max Landis would get attention periodically for proposing a dumb semi-meta idea of a Ghostbusters sequel or whatever? This has that sort of vibe. Title cards for earlier Friday the 13th sequels frequently bled or exploded so this one meets them in the middle by having "Jason Goes to Hell" in flames while "The Final Friday" bleeds. It's that kind of movie. Made with love and not much else. Has its moments but if…

  • Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Only slightly longer than the movies it followed but you really, really feel it. Has a sort of unauthorized foreign sequel vibe to it though and that scores it points. Neat flourishes scattered kinda sparsely across the first 70 minutes or so with cool stuff happening a little more regularly in the last 20.

  • Zodiac

I want the house boat from this movie more than anything
