    It Chapter Two

    ★★

I enjoyed this more than It, but rather this film was released before 2017’s origin.

In this return to Derry, we’d be finding out what happened 27 years ago at the same time the characters do, whilst the origin will become mythologised in our minds. We only see snippets of the past and will wonder what exactly happened.

The origin feels like a fantasy. By the time we get to that film two years later, we’ll have taken a journey…

WTF is this description? A GIRL, BORN IN A BOY’S BODY? I have reported this to Letterboxd. Also, trans genital mutilation as trans representation, urghh.

A fantastic character study exploring the American youth, with themes of anti authority, anti military from the point of view of someone who contradicts this viewpoint, as they try to right their wrongdoings. It also explores how a world without a god, can be just as detrimental as a world with one. There is subtle religious subtext and an interesting Jesus allegory, which subverts the typical formula of how the metaphor is often used in film. Also, this movie is visually breathtaking.

Very good but far too similar in presentation to Post Tenebras Lux (2012) including one scene which was a complete shot for shot rip-off, which went to lengthy extremes to make it so unnecessarily similar. They even cast a child who looks exactly the same and shoots a toy gun giving the same red glow as in Post Tenebras Lux

Otherwise I did very much enjoy it but that scene was very unnecessary and grating.

EDIT: Upon further reflection, I feel that this scene was more in acknowledgement of Reygadas' influence on the film.
